Ever been friended or followed by a recruiter, hiring manager or company? It's not because they want your friendship. They are checking up on you. Here is why...
It's easy for most people to put up the perfect resume and LinkedIn profile. However, for many, that's far from reality.
Recruiters want to filter out anyone who may not be a good cultural fit, may affect the company's brand or have an opinion that is against the company's goals and mission.
For example, if you are outspoken about your political views on Twitter, most companies might stay away from you. Depending on your role in the company, your personal views might damage the company's brand.
If for example, your personal profile reflects clear usage of accessive drug use, alcohol, etc, they will filter you out.
There are many 3rd party companies that provide this type of check-up as a service.
So, our advice... before you apply to jobs, clean up your social account. Go back to the beginning and delete any major political statements, image and videos that may discredit your professionalism. We know this may be annoying and against your personal views, but if this blocks you from getting a job- are you willing to take those down?
